Evaluating the viscoelastic shear properties of clear wood via off-axis compression testing and digital-image correlation

چکیده

Abstract Highly anisotropic materials like wood and unidirectional polymer composite structures are sensitive to shear deformations, in particular close fixed joints. Large wooden buildings and, e.g. wind-turbine blades, designed last for decades, hence susceptible unwanted creep deformations. For improved structural design, the shear-creep properties of material needed. These rarely available literature, possibly because technical difficulties achieve a well-defined shear-stress state test specimens. cost-efficient testing, this goal pure stress necessarily needs be compromised. In present study, we propose simple method based on uniaxial compression cubes, but is equally applicable fibre composites. The viscoelastic Norway spruce (Picea abies) under off-axis tests have been characterised all three directions. performed controlled climate chamber strains captured using digital-image correlation.

Characterizing the compression-dependent viscoelastic properties of human hepatic pathologies using dynamic compression testing.

Recent advances in elastography have provided several imaging modalities capable of quantifying the elasticity of tissue, an intrinsic tissue property. This information is useful for determining tumour margins and may also be useful for diagnosing specific tumour types. In this study, we used dynamic compression testing to quantify the viscoelastic properties of 16 human hepatic primary and sec...

Correlating Off-axis Tension Tests to Shear Modulus of Wood-based Panels

The weakness of existing relationships correlating off-axis modulus of elasticity E to shear mod ulus G12 for wood composite panels is demonstrated through presentation of extensive experimental data. A new relationship is proposed that performs better than existing equations found in the literature. This relationship can be manipulated to calculate the shear modulus G12 of orthotropic specim...

On the Use of Acoustic Emission and Digital Image Correlation for Welded Joints Damage Characterization

A series of tests have been conducted to investigate fatigue damage characterization in corroded welded steel plates using structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques. Acoustic Emission (AE) is a non-destructive testing (NDT) technique with potential applications for locating and monitoring fatigue cracks in service. In the present work, AE is implemented to characterize damage during crack e...
